Aircraft construction involves the liberal application of rubber like epoxies to seal gas tanks and virtually all areas subject to air leakage which would cause depressurization of the aircraft. During maintenance and repair of the aircraft, these mastics must be removed and replaced after the inspection or repair is complete. The typical method of removal throughout the aircraft industry is to hand scrape these mastics with a plastic or composite blade. These blades do not have handles and the chore is dreaded by aircraft repair personnel. The blades used are often fabricated of hazardous materials which may only be sharpened underwater as the residue is known to cause cancer.
Outzone Aviation was begun after the development of a pneumatic tool by Edward Moore Design Inc to simplify and greatly speed the task. As the proprietary
NYROC™plastic blades developed used much more quickly, a sharpener was innovated to rapidly sharpen the blades at the job site. We were requested by the Air Force to ensure that these tools were grounded and antistatic as they would use them in gas tanks on C-130.
NONSTAT™anti static grounded air hose was developed, all fittings used throughout
are anti static and the hand tool was sealed . The result was Air Force
approval for use of the system inside gas tanks on aircraft.
Outzone Aviation is a division of Outzone Industries Inc. Outzone specializes
in the concept, design and manufacture of pneumatic tools for aircraft
maintenance and repairs. . Four new tools are currently under development
to remove other specialty coatings.
