Designed and manufactured for Dow Chemical , this carpet testing machine
compared wear patterns on Dow chemical backed carpet against the competitions
carpet backing.
180 lbs pressure was applied by chair bases to carpet covered turntables
that revolved in an orbital fashion while being continually raked by a
wire brush. Carpet wear was sped up by a factor of approximately 350. Three
motors precisely moved the mechanism on cast and machined mechanics while
stroke counters and timers accurately monitored the results
30 machines in two sizes were designed fabricated and delivered over a
6 month period.
